When you want the real thing
What actually helps
Lactase tablets let many people enjoy real dairy comfortably — taken at the right dose, with the first bite. We bought the ones on Australian shelves and put them to the test against a flat white, a cheese board and a bowl of ice cream.
Coming soon: our full head-to-head results. We buy every product at full price and take nothing from brands — so when the tested rankings go live here, they're genuinely independent.
How lactase tablets work
They supply the lactase enzyme your body is short on, breaking down lactose before it can cause symptoms. The two things that matter most: a high enough enzyme dose, and taking it with your first mouthful of dairy — not after symptoms start.
What to look for
- A high enzyme dose (measured in FCC lactase units)
- Chewables act fast and need no water; capsules are fine too
- Take with the first bite, not after
- For big or high-lactose meals, you may need a second
In the meantime, our food guides and free cheat sheet will help you sidestep the worst triggers.
Lactase supplements are a management tool, not a cure. If you rely on them daily, confirm your diagnosis with a GP or dietitian.
